Warner Brothers Schedule Updated: Ready Player One readies away from Star War VIII and Flash Adjusts

Warner has pushed their Steven Spielberg tent pole Ready Player One away from it's original December 15, 2017 release date to March 30, 2018. This comes after it was announced a couple weeks ago that Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII moved from its original May release to December. What's interesting is that Disney was originally going to move Star Wars back to May, the same month the first six were released. But after Disney printed money with The Force Awakens' December release, they decided to keep December a sort of Star Wars holiday and push Episode VIII and the future rest to December, leaving Spielberg's huge film, that may actually never get made into the following year.

Also Warner seemed to bump up The Flash film by about a week, moving it from March 23 to March 16, 2018. The reason for the move may be to give The Flash a little extra breathing room before Ready Player One is released. This will give The Flash two weeks in IMAX before Ready Player One takes over.

The interesting thing is Spielberg always wanted to direct a Star Wars movie and was even supposedly offered to direct a prequel film. At that time Spielberg didn't want to mess with Lucas' vision and let George helm the three prequels. In fact, supposedly Spielberg was not the only one offered to direct a prequel film, Ron Howard and Robert Zemeckis were also offered... Imagine the world we would live in if every Star Wars was directed by a different director. Instead Lucas directed the first four sequentially, with the next three being directed by Irvin Kershner, Richard Marquand, and JJ Abrams, with Rian Johnson set to direct VIII and Colin Trevorrow to direct IX.

And Spielberg did in fact direct some Star Wars. He's credited as directing some of the animatics in Revege of the Sith. He's credited on the film as an assistant director and supposedly had a hand in the animatics for the Mustafar lightsaber duel between Anakin and Obi Wan and the end of the film and the senate fight between Yoda and the Emperor.
