Synergy. It’s a huge buzzword throughout Hollywood. The main Hollywood studios, the one’s with
studio lots, are owned by larger conglomerates are that large conglomerate themselves; this allows them to take an intellectual property and successfully and creatively spread it around your subsidiaries and resources. Below I have the six major Hollywood studios in the most stripped down form I can name it without naming ownership.
The major studios:
20th Century Fox
They all have a deep history, or bought their deep Hollywood history. In this history they have created
the most iconic stories in the past 100 years. We have also started to take notice of these stories being told as more than just stories, these major Hollywood studios own story worlds. Most creators talk about how creating a Star Wars movie or a Marvel film is like playing in a giant sandbox. They make more than stories, more than characters, they create entire universes. And sometime the focus on story or character is trumped by a creator’s obsession with “world building.” The ability to create a complete diagetic world that feels lived in and ernest.
Within the confines of this website I shall explore the worlds and universes the studios are now attempting to create. The connecting of different stories to a larger world, the spinoffs of the TV world, and the synergy that is used or should be used to create all of it. Because after all, some studios are better at it than others.
