Disney Schedule Updated: Star Wars: Episode VIII and Pirates: Episode V - Dead Men Tell No Tales
Disney has learned a great deal about releasing an epic film during the December / Christmas season. Star Wars movies have always been released in May, to the point that it really did start the trend of releasing huge summer blockbusters in May. Disney now fully occupies that space with Marvel Studios movies, and while they were originally going to move Star Wars back to May, leaving us with only 6 months between Rogue One and Episode VIII, they now have decided that with the record breaking success of The Force Awakens, now the highest grossing movie domestically with $861 million, over $100 million more than Avatar, and sitting currently
at third at the all time international gross, with $1.886 billion, only behind Titanic and Avatar.
With little to no competition in December and into January, especially for large IMAX sized screens, Episode VII will move from May 26, 2017 to December 15, 2017. Pirates of Caribbean: Episode V - Dead Men Tell No Tales will now move from July 7th to the May 26, 2017 slot.
Disney and Sony’s joint custody child, the Jon Watt’s reboot of Spider-Man (three-boot, since it’s the 3rd Spider-Man reboot) to July 7, 2017. Here’s the article for Sony 2016 shuffle.
