Will Fox Reboot Buffy?

2015 was arguably the biggest year for giant movies. Last year is the year of the tentpole as Jurassic Park IV: Jurassic World, Avengers II: Age of Ultron, Mad Max IV: Fury Road, Terminator IV: Genisys, James Bond XXIV: SPECTRE, Hunger Games IV: Mockingjay Part 2 and Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens were all released and most of them were above the average summer blockbuster quality.

Every studio is in a fever trying to pitch the next big tentpole. 21st Century Fox has never been first in box office revenue for an entire year, but they do own many story worlds, aka intellectual properties that have made a lot of money, namely the two highest grossing films of all time, one that is now being turned into a four movie series, Avatar. Here is a list of some of their high level

story worlds:

X-Men Universe

Alien/Predator/Prometheus

Die Hard

Avatar

They also own the rights to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The right thing to do would be to secure Joss Whedon after having made the first two Avengers films and lock him into a Buffy three movie deal. Listen they’re going to remake, reboot, or recycle Buffy at some point, it’s too lucrative a brand not to keep going. Fox already put some dough behind a remake, hiring a writer in 2011 to write a Buffy reboot without any involvement from Joss Whedon and more than likely a brand new cast. So the proper thing to do would be to give the franchise back to the man who created, who has two films in the top ten highest grossing movies of all time. Give him his story world back so you don’t ruin it and let him print you solid gold with a new Buffy movie trilogy.

Here are some ideas:

Adapt the comics.

The comics have ran an 8th season of 40 issues, a 9th season of 20 issues and they are now on a 10th season of who knows how many issues. To be short and quick, they could potentially make each season of comics into its own movie in the the trilogy. There are a lot of things that happen in season 8 and a lot of characters that return and the Fray thing couldn’t be done. But that’s for a later point.

In season 8 we get a lot of characters from the past and from the future returning, not held back by heir Hollywood schedules. Oz makes a triumphant return after Buffy finds out she has super powers and needs him to find out how to control her powers. Xander and Dawn fall in love. Buffy has a fling with one of the young slayers and Willow is all excited that Buffy is now a lesbian. It's a really fun run, seriously all 40 issues are worth the read.

Adapt Fray: Future Slayer

Much like how Batman has Batman Beyond, Buffy has Fray the future slayer. Back in 2001 Joss’ first official Buffy comic book didn’t have Buffy in it. Instead it took place in the future, where there were no more slayers, no more watchers, the vampires have turned into things in the darkness. Fray must find her true calling as the slayer. It’s amazing and certainly worth a read. Fray even has an arc in season 8 of Buffy.

A Buffy Trilogy

if I were Fox, I would have start with us catching up with Buffy and the gang and straight up do as much of the season 8 comic or they could start completly fresh.

Then, maybe they are all torn apart and with the disappearance of Xander, his wife, Dawn Cage, has to reconnect with her sister and Willow and go find Xander. They all end up in the future, where they meet Fray. They then get thrown into the past and Xander gets kept in the past, about 30 years before the first slayer is created. Xander then gets old and realizes he's the one that has to start the line of slayers.
